Classwork: Today we finished watching the WWI Crash Course and discussed the positive and negative impacts of the WWI in the US. We started working on the WWI @Home chart to see how the war impacted different groups of people. Tomorrow we will discuss the final chart.
Homework: Complete the WWI @Home chart, if you did not finish in class.
Classwork: Today we continued to take notes about US involvement with WWI. We listened to music to analyze the impact of the war. At the end of class we watched an episode of Crash Course. I also passed out the study guide for the text next Wednesday.

Classwork: Today we continued working on the US Intervention worksheet. We talked about if the use was motivated by realistic or idealistic views. We started talking about WWI and accessed our prior knowledge to complete a timeline game.
Classwork: Today we reviewed the Spanish-American War and the impact it had on US Foreign Policy. We started talking about imperialism and how the US intervened in multiple countries/territories prior to WWI. We used the Imperialism Worksheet, our textbooks and primary source documents to understand why the US got involved and how the corresponding countries viewed it. As a class we discussed how our decisions are made and if they are more realistic or idealistic. This better helps us understand why the US made foreign policy decisions in the early 1990s. We will continue to use this chart for the rest of the week to better understand US Imperialism leading up to WWI.
Classwork: Today I collected your Turn of the Century Children's Books. We also shared them in small groups. We spent the majority of class watching an episode of Ken Burns - The National Parks. The purpose was to visually see and hear the impact of the progressive presidents we have been talking about for the last couple days.
Homework: Please read Chapter 20 in the textbook, The Spanish-American War. You do not need to take notes.
Classwork: Today we continued talking about the Progressive Era in US History. We looked at three progressive Presidents, T. Roosevelt, Taft and Wilson. We filled in a chart using our textbook and crash course - getting multiple perspectives of each president. We had a class discussion to determine if these presidents were actually progressive. Remaining time was used to work on homework.
Homework: Finish Children's Book - due tomorrow.

Classwork: Today we looked at the Progressive Era during the early 1900s. We took notes as a class using the Progressive Era Chart. We compared the early 1900s to our current times to determine if we are living in a progressive era. The remaining class time was used to study or work on the Children's Book.
Homework: Study for Quiz, Work on Children's Book.
Classwork: Today was a work period for you. You have a couple assignments you cold be focusing on. One is the Turn of the Century Children's Book. This is a culminating project to synthesize the themes of the T.O.C. Unit - it can also be done in groups. Second, you could be studying for the T.O.C. Quiz on Wednesday.
Homework: None, unless you are studying for quiz on Wednesday or continually working on the children's book.
Classwork: Today we reviewed Far and Away and discussed what connections we could make between the movie and the class. I introduced who the muckrakers were and what their purpose was during the turn of the century. We did an activity were you became a Muckraker and collected evidence about the problems with US Society. If you do not have enough evidence, please read chapter 16 in the textbook.
Homework: Muckraker paragraph (Pg 5 of the PDF) is due on Monday. This assignment can be done individually or in groups.
Classwork: Today we finished watching Far and Away. I passed out the study guide for the quiz next Wednesday and the instructions for the Children's Book.
Homework: Far and Away questions are due tonight if you are typing them and tomorrow if you are hand writing them. Also please read Chapter 14 in the textbook.
Today we did not have school in honor of Veterans Day. Please take a moment to honor those who have served. See you tomorrow.

Classwork: Today I collected the Industrialist Activity. We started watching Far and Away. This movie shows the experience of two Irish immigrants who came to the US during the turn of the century. This movie will help us understand, through a visual medium, the impact of big business, immigration and the change in America during the early 1900s. There are discussion questions for this film.
Classwork: Today we took notes about Immigration in the US at the turn of the century. We talked about why individuals came to America, who came to the US and the impact it had.
Homework: Industrialist activity is due on Monday.
Classwork: Today we reviewed the notes from yesterday. I introduced the Industrialist Activity which asks you research 3 different individuals who helped bring industry and big business to the US, you were then asked to created a wanted poster or TIME man of the year poster. We spent a majority of the class period in the computer lab working on this assignment.
Homework: Industrialist Activity is due on Monday.
Classwork: Today we watched Crash Course about Westward expansion to wrap up the impact of people moving west. We started to discuss important inventions and innovations of our time to understand the importance of new technology in society. We started to take notes on major inventions in the late 1800s.
Classwork: Today we continued looking at the impact of westward expansion had on different groups of individuals in the US post Civil War. We discussed what groups had more opportunities than others. We also briefly discussed any last minute questions about the paper as well as how to use in-text citations.
